Amicasana — A Personal Journey with Creative Self-inquiry

About

Conception

In 2024, I made a commitment to explore my relationship with my body, identity, and gender through self-led expressive arts, while concurrently working alongside an incredible clinical psychologist. Amicasana was born shortly after that decision, thanks in part to my friend ADHD.

Function

Amicasana functions as both a digital art portfolio and a personal archival tool. It documents healing as an ongoing, lived, and relational process with the self across the lifespan rather than a fixed endpoint or destination.

Evolution

Shaped by years of therapy, complex trauma work, and intentional exploration of identity through expressive art, this platform has evolved alongside me. In 2026, I made the decision to make elements of my creative portfolio more accessible.

Practice

My creative practice draws on my special interests in therapy, human experience, reflection, symbolism, relational dynamics (between people), intrapersonal dynamics (within the self), and personal growth.

I use experiential understanding, felt sense, and unbridled creative impulses to blend art, craft, writing, and somatic tools to support my own emotional regulation, integration, and self-understanding.

Through this work, I explore healing as a lifelong process, engaging with themes such as trauma, mental health, identity, relationships, gender, and questions of existential meaning.

Intention

While this work is deeply personal, I recognise that the complexity and nuance of human experiences are the most common threads among us all, and I believe sharing more openly can support human connection and our capacity to relate authentically.

I value compassion, vulnerability, safety, kindness, and integrity, and this work is an ongoing practice of living in alignment with these.

Invitation

You are welcome to explore what is and becomes available to you here. As many pieces touch on complex emotions, I invite you to approach this work gently and with curiosity, making space for your own reflection and noticing what resonates with your lived experience.

Take care,

K x

Philosophy

Creativity as instinct

I see the process of creating as an extension of someone’s core, unguarded self expressing freely through symbolism and abstract language. To me, art is an external, physical, tactile, observable representation of an internal feeling, experience, or perspective that can become seen, known, and understood without words.

Art as a tool for self-exploration

The focus of my art is not technical precision, but the act of creation itself. Through making, I can witness internal experiences that might otherwise remain unconscious. I treat art as a tool for self-understanding and shared human meaning; a way to explore inner life through expression, symbolism, and attentive reflection.

Symbolism & flow states

As a neurodiverse person, drawing often accompanies how I process auditory information, particularly when there are no visual cues. What might look like “mindless scribble” frequently reveals symbolic meaning or insight when I am not consciously directing it. These moments, whether subtle or striking, remind me how much the unconscious speaks through form. The same emerges in collaging, improvisation, and other creative modes. The work often reflects what I am living, feeling, or integrating.

Creative work in a flow state allows deeper aspects of self to emerge, parts that might stay hidden if we are too busy to listen. I see our creations not simply as products but as invitations to explore inner landscapes and core needs.

Process & practice

Instinct & intent
My creative process is guided by instinct, mood, and materials. Some pieces begin with an idea or a feeling; others unfold spontaneously. Each process starts with the intention to connect inwardly through making.

The creative process
While working with materials, I observe thoughts, memories, and feelings that arise. I often use reflective practices such as self-talk and techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to support this internal dialogue. Some pieces reveal their meaning only after completion; others awaken insight during the process of creation. My visual art uses a wide range of mediums including but not limited to oil pastels, chalk pastels, paint, collaging, books, and re-purposed items and materials.

Meaning & integration
When a piece feels complete, I sit with it mindfully to observe what it stirs for me: sensations, thoughts, memories, and impressions. Writing about the work for Amicasana adds another layer of reflection and integration. Music, what I call “music of resonance,” often accompanies this phase, deepening the experience and opening emotional insight. Through this approach, creative practice becomes a path to self-inquiry, emotional release, and personal growth.

About K

They/she

I’m just a human(ish?) person making sense of this big ol’ thing we call life.

I’m interested in psychology, art, communication, society, learning, and anything remotely associated with symbolism, emotion, and felt experience.

I enjoy spending time with pets, hyper-focusing on passion projects, and attending workshops that support growth and development.

I absolutely love nature, with my favourite place being the ocean views of Bunurong Country. Mountains, rivers, forests, dragonflies, butterflies, sunshine, morning air, night skies, fog, rain, and my absolute favourite - ocean winds and storms, will always be part of what anchors me, keeps me regulated, and brings me deep appreciation for life.

I love laughter, play, creating, crafting, writing, cooking, baking, music, memes, playing pranks, giving gifts, being unapologetically goofy, home projects, Bunnings snags, being barefoot, out in the dirt, or under the hose, and following just about any impulsive creative whim that pops into this busy brain.

In essence, I am the by-product of a little chaos gremlin and a nurturer inhabiting the same body; navigating life together in constant peace negotiations over who’s at the helm of the ship.
